On Nov. 6, Barack Obama was re-elected as president of the United States, defeating Republican nominee Gov. Mitt Romney with more than 300 electoral votes and a popular vote of 50 percent to 48 percent.

In Congress, the U.S. Senate now stands at 55 Democrats to 45 Republicans and the U.S. House of Representatives will have a Republican majority with an approximate 35 seat advantage over Democrats. Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio) is likely to remain Speaker of the House and Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is expected to remain Senate Majority Leader. In addition, Markwayne Mullin, owner of Mullin Plumbing, Inc., Broken Arrow, Okla., and a member of the ÀÏÅ£Ó°ÊÓOklahoma Chapter,  to represent Oklahoma’s 2nd District.

Following the election, ÀÏÅ£Ó°ÊÓreasserted its commitment to advocating for the issues that are important to the merit shop construction industry. In the next two years, ÀÏÅ£Ó°ÊÓwill play a significant role in presumptive debates in Congress regarding comprehensive tax and entitlement reform, in addition to comprehensive immigration reform.
