The Department of Energy (DOE) issued a seeking a common definition for Zero Energy Buildings (ZEB). The goal is to create a broadly accepted definition of ZEB boundaries and metrics to create a standard that regulators and private entities can agree upon. 

There is currently little consensus on a definition for ZEBs and the agency hopes that creating a common definition will help create greater market uptake of these projects. The public has until Feb. 20 to submit written comments which can be submitted by going to . 

DOE plans to publish a report on ZBE definitions in 2015.
