UnderÌýnew rules, effective Dec. 21, 2015 the FederalÌýAviation Administration is requiring anyone who buys a small unmanned aircraft systemÌý(UAS) that is more than .55 lbs and less than 55 lbs to register it before itÌýis flown outside. Registration of the UAS can be done through theÌýonlineÌýregistryÌýfor a fee of $5; the registrationÌýis valid for three years. Individuals who previously owned and operated a UAS haveÌýuntil Feb. 19, 2016 to register.Ìý

ÀÏÅ£Ó°ÊÓsubmitted comments April 24 to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on the proposed rule for the operation and certification of small unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), also known as drones. ÀÏÅ£Ó°ÊÓoffered its input on how the proposal will affect the construction industry’s ability to use drones on project sites.Ìý

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Feb. 23 issued the long-anticipatedÌýproposalÌýto address the commercial use of small unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), also referred to as drones. The proposal was introduced after the FAA previously failed to meet numerous deadlines to provide a regulatory framework for non-recreational use of small UAS. The proposed rule is expected to go into effect January 1, 2017.
