The U.S. Department of Labor鈥檚 Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)听released a report听showing听a drop in union membership听from 14 percent to 13.2 percent听in the U.S. private construction industry from 2011 to 2012. Today 86.8 percent of the private construction workforce chooses not to belong to a union.

The EPA in November 2012听began issuing enforcement actions听for violations of its听Lead-Safe Renovation Repair and Painting听rule, which went into effect in April 2010, and began mailing postcards to uncertified renovation contractors in target areas.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Aug. 12 announced plans to withdraw the numeric limit portion of its stormwater management regulations for construction sites, the Effluent Limitations Guidelines (ELG). The rule originally was slated to take effect in January 2011, butenforcement was suspended听due to challenges filed by industry groups and the U.S. Small Business Administration.
