The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation announced the awards in a press release on February 15.
Open to early-career scholars in eight scientific and technical fields -- chemistry, computer science, economics, mathematics, computational and evolutionary molecular biology, neuroscience, ocean sciences and physics -- the are awarded each year on the basis of a candidate鈥檚 research accomplishments, creativity, and potential to become a leader in his or her field.
Pierce was selected from among more than 800 nominees in the United States and Canada. She is among 126 researchers to receive the 2018 award, which includes a two-year, $65,000 research fellowship.
