Asiya Gusa's climate change research focuses on how warming temperatures affect fungal diseases, particularly Cryptococcus. Her team found that higher temperatures increase the fungus’s mutation rate, helping it survive. With more drug-resistant fungi emerging because of climate change and aging populations, Gusa emphasizes the urgent need for new antifungal treatments to prevent a potential fungal pandemic. Gusa is assistant professor of molecular genetics… Duke Today /2024/10/infectious-fungi-are-loving-global-warming Fri, 11 Oct 2024 10:21:42 -0400 Duke Today Schools Feed Climate Change|Faculty|Molecular Genetics and Microbiology|School of Medicine Hope for Dangerous Fungal Infections /2024/08/hope-dangerous-fungal-infections School of Medicine /2024/08/hope-dangerous-fungal-infections Tue, 06 Aug 2024 08:31:34 -0400 Duke Today Schools Feed Molecular Genetics and Microbiology|School of Medicine With Climate Change Comes a Fungal Problem /2024/07/climate-change-comes-fungal-problem Research points to protein’s role in helping plants and fungi adapt to rising temperatures School of Medicine /2024/07/climate-change-comes-fungal-problem Wed, 31 Jul 2024 22:25:41 -0400 Duke Today Schools Feed Cell Biology|Faculty|Molecular Genetics and Microbiology|School of Medicine|Science & Technology Initiative How Climate Change Is Affecting Health /2024/04/how-climate-change-affecting-health School of Medicine Magnify /2024/04/how-climate-change-affecting-health Thu, 25 Apr 2024 14:23:50 -0400 Duke Today Schools Feed Faculty|Molecular Genetics and Microbiology|Nicholas School of the Environment|Population Health|Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences|School of Medicine|Sustainability The Promise and Power of RNA /2024/03/promise-and-power-rna what if the molecule that became a pandemic hero could also help program our bodies to fight cancer, diabetes, heart conditions and sickle cell disease?
