Telling the Stories of How Duke Research Saves Lives
New campaign will feature life-changing research and the patients who benefit

These changes will shut down clinical trials, close biomedical research labs and put support for the next generation of research scientists 鈥 and the medical advances they will make -- at risk.
The prospect of these funding cuts has served as the impetus behind the Duke Research Saves Lives campaign launched earlier this year. It features the work of Duke鈥檚 researchers and the patients who benefit from their efforts.

In this campaign, Duke is using multiple channels to share with the campus community and residents across North Carolina and the country the health and economic benefits provided by university research.
Those who follow Duke鈥檚 social media channels on , , and likely have noticed posts highlighting the critical work taking place in our various schools 鈥 from Pratt engineering students and faculty to the School of Medicine鈥檚 researchers and physicians. Ads are also showing in the lobby of Raleigh-Durham Airport.
The outreach extends beyond those channels with targeted promotional ads that exemplify Duke鈥檚 work in areas including research in neuroscience, cancer, heart disease and Alzheimer鈥檚 disease. Duke also is inviting those who have benefitted to share their stories about how the university has touched their lives or the lives of a loved one.
As Duke President Vincent Price recently noted in his annual address to faculty, 鈥淭he American research university is in a moment of existential challenge. Unquestionably we are in a moment of deep uncertainty.鈥
In the coming weeks, the Duke Research Saves Lives site will expand its storytelling into a range of research, from how the climate impacts health, to the scientists working to make drinking water safer and study of new materials that diagnose and treat diseases.
