Joy, Fun & Colors: Students Celebrate Holi
This past weekend, Duke鈥檚 West Campus was dusted with reds, yellows, oranges and blues. Duke students celebrated the Hindu holiday Holi, the Festival of Colors. Holi traditionally marks the arrival of spring, the triumph of good over evil, and the spirit of love and unity.聽
Holi is observed in South Asian countries and worldwide throughout the South Asian diaspora. The throwing of colored powders symbolizes happiness. Under a nearly cloudless sunny sky with the cool temperature of early spring, Duke students of all faiths took part in the celebration, danced to music from South Asia and relaxed with friends.
The annual event was hosted by Diya, Duke鈥檚 South Asian Student Association, and the Duke Hindu Students Association.
