Duke鈥檚 Early Voting Site Helps State Break Record for First Day of Voting

Early voting in North Carolina started Thursday with a voting across the state. Duke鈥檚 Karsh Alumni and Visitors Center contributed to the record with 1175 people casting ballots on the first day, making the center one of the most active early voting sites in Durham County.

In total, 12,859 people cast their votes on the first day of early voting in Durham County.

Turnout was similar on Friday, when Duke President Vincent Price and wife Annette Price arrived to cast their ballots. Another 1115 people voted at Karsh that day. The strong numbers continued throughout the weekend. As of Sunday evening, 3,571 people voted at Duke; overall, 38,820 people have cast ballots at Durham early voting sites. While the is attracting many Duke students and employees, the high weekend numbers underline its value and convenience to the wider Durham community.

Early voting at Karsh, one of 12 early voting sites in Durham, will continue until Nov. 2. Early voting sites are open weekdays 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 19 & 26, 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, Oct 20 & 27, 2 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, Nov. 2, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 5.
