IT Working to Restore Devices Affected by Windows Outage

Duke continues to recover from a global IT outage that occurred early Friday for Windows-based devices following an update pushed out to systems by CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity company.
Many people around the world were faced with an inoperable 鈥渂lue screen鈥 when trying to access their Windows-based devices Friday morning.
Apple devices were not affected, and Windows-based computers that were turned off before midnight Thursday were not affected.
Duke IT staff continue to work to restore systems, computers and other Windows-based devices. Back-up systems are in place in many areas to support those areas that are still experiencing issues.
The fix for this issue requires booting the Windows device into Safe Mode or Recovery Mode and deleting a file. Instructions for doing this can be found on the .
