Closing Phases of Abele Quad Renovation to Affect Traffic in June

Chapel Drive will be closed between the traffic circle and Abele Quad from June 19-28

The closing phases to a multi-year restoration project of Abele Quad will result in adjustments to bus routes and pedestrian access during a brief period in late June.

The comprehensive restoration project, which has been overseen by , will finish this summer. Among the closing tasks will be replacing granite curbing and a section of pavement in the Chapel Drive bus circle, upgrading the crosswalk striping across Chapel Drive with more durable paint and adding a new, stronger lining to the sewer pipes that run beneath the bus circle.

As a result of the work, Chapel Drive will be closed to all traffic between the traffic circle and Abele Quad starting June 19 through June 28. During that time, the West Campus stop for the will be moved to Flowers Drive near the stairway to the Allen Lot.

Another task will be to improve the stormwater drainage of the bluestone slabs near the newly replaced limestone steps in front of ÀÏÅ£Ó°ÊÓ Chapel. The work of slightly raising some of the bluestone slabs will affect a section sidewalk near the Flowers Building. It will require the sidewalk to be closed from June 3 to July 5, though access to all nearby buildings will remain open.
