Duke Honored as a Top Producer of Fulbright Scholars
The State Department has recognized Duke as a top institution for producing Fulbright scholars for the 2023-2024 academic year.
The 16 Duke students and alumni awarded this term will teach English, pursue graduate study and conduct research across 10 different countries on three continents.
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is a world-renowned international education program, designed to enable cultural exchange and increase mutual understanding between the United States and more than 140 different countries across the globe.
鈥淲e are very proud to have so many Fulbright grantees representing Duke around the world,鈥 said Anna Bernard-Hoverstad, program coordinator of nationally competitive scholarships in Duke鈥檚 Office of University Scholars and Fellows.
鈥淲e hope that their time abroad researching, teaching and studying is fruitful and fulfilling for years to come.鈥
The achievement announced Tuesday is a 鈥渢estament to your institution鈥檚 deep commitment to international exchange and to building lasting connections between the people of the United States and the people of other countries,鈥 wrote U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in a congratulations letter to Duke President Vincent E. Price.
鈥淚 would like to commend you and to thank you and your entire team for your hard work in promoting the Fulbright Program to the students and faculty on your campus,鈥 Blinken wrote.
