Duke Law School hosted a discussion Wednesday on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s effort to reduce the power of his country’s high court while leading a coalition with a scant legislative majority and standing trial on corruption charges. The event featured Israeli lawyer Dov Weissglas, a former chief of staff to Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, and Duke Law alumnus Peter Kahn, a lawyer in Washington, D.C. They reviewed legislative proposals to curtail the authority of the Israel Supreme Court's judicial review of government actions, the implications of those efforts, and helped put the proposals into a historical and political context.
